Teeth Whitening – Bleaching

Teeth Whitening

These days a bright, white smile is a must-have, and thanks to recent advances it is now easier than ever to achieve. Teeth whitening is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment that can change the colour of your tooth enamel, making it the perfect way to achieve white teeth and enhance the natural beauty of your smile.

As teeth whitening works on your natural tooth enamel, your dentist will evaluate your old fillings, crowns, etc prior to treatment.  Any necessary replacement of restorations will be completed after bleaching to ensure a perfect match with the newly bleached teeth, giving you beautiful white teeth and the smile you always dreamed of.

Tooth whitening is not a permanent procedure, especially if you smoke, or drink tea, coffee, or wine. In order to maintain your smile we recommend that you schedule a touch-up every several years.

How To Get White Teeth

In Surgery Teeth Whitening

We use the Voco Perfect Bleach Office system (the latest on the market) for our in-surgery treatment. As some patients can experience severe sensitivity, the procedure requires a preliminary examination of your teeth. Following the initial examination your dentist will advise you if you are a suitable candidate for this type of teeth bleaching and explain the procedure to you in advance of your treatment (which takes less than an hour to complete).

Suitable Patients are required to have their teeth cleaned in advance of treatment and may have impressions taken for Bleaching Trays by the dentist should you wish to keep your teeth bleaching touched up at home. (This is done by occasionally wearing trays with whitening bleach in them). We recommended that you periodically use the Bleaching Trays at home in order to maintain your bright smile.

At Home Teeth Whitening

If you are unsuitable for the in-surgery treatment, we can have Bleaching Trays made which can be used at home for whitening teeth.

This type of teeth whitening requires two visits to your dentist. At your first appointment, impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth, from which we will fabricate your custom made, clear plastic bleaching trays.

At your follow up appointment, the bleaching trays will be fitted, and any necessary adjustments can be made. You will be given instructions on how to care for your teeth and bleaching trays, then you then simply wear the trays containing a special teeth whitening solution overnight for a couple of weeks, or twice daily for two hours, depending on the level of staining and degree of teeth whitening you are aiming to achieve.  You may experience a degree of tooth sensitivity during this period, however this will subside shortly after you complete the teeth bleaching process.

Reasons for teeth whitening
